Lime and Raffles Milano present Designing Urban Sustainability

Lime and Raffles Milano present Designing Urban Sustainability: a limited-edition collection of Lime vehicles for Milan Design Week

Design students from Raffles Milano have created an exclusive look for a limited-edition of Lime bikes and scooters, that will be live and in circulation specially during Milan Design Week, blending creativity and design portraying urban sustainability.

Milan, March 2025 Lime, the world’s leading shared electric vehicle company, is thrilled to announce its first collaboration with a school: Raffles Milano, an international design institute, to launch a limited-edition collection of bikes and e-scooters. These unique vehicles will be available throughout Milan Design Week 2025, from April 7 to 13, within the vibrant Porta Venezia Design District.

This partnership aligns perfectly with this year’s theme, Connected Worlds, celebrating participatory and generative design. Through Lime and Raffles Milano, design and urban sustainability move forward together, merging innovation, smart mobility, and creativity into a unified experience.

The collaboration comes to life through the 72 Hours Project, a unique educational initiative by Raffles Milano, where 13 students take on an intensive three-day design challenge. The objective was to transform Lime’s vehicles into iconic design pieces that integrate into Milan’s urban landscape, balancing functionality with aesthetics to present a fresh vision of sustainable mobility.

Design students explored Porta Venezia district’s unique energy and identity, searching for the texture and growing nature directly in the streets in order to narrow down their visual research. Inspired by the harmony between history and modernity and the organic flow of Porta Venezia’s green spaces, they redefined the connection between nature and the urban environment. This concept transforms nature into an evolving, interactive element that coexists with urban mobility. “At Lime, we believe in urban mobility that seamlessly integrates with the environment around us.”, says Evan Catlett Creative Director of Lime “With this initiative, we bring a fresh perspective on nature in the streets, inspired by the balance between tradition and innovation and the natural rhythm of Porta Venezia’s lush green areas.

We are redefining the connection between nature and the city, transforming it into a living, interactive element that evolves alongside urban mobility. This project marks a step forward toward more sustainable cities, where green spaces and movement merge into a more harmonious and environmentally conscious urban experience.”

Milan, a global design capital, becomes the ideal stage for a mobility experience that transcends mere transportation: it becomes a statement of style, enhancing and engaging with the city itself. For this occasion, Raffles Milano students will reinterpret Lime’s bikes and scooters with an approach that harmonizes aesthetics and practicality, turning them into true design elements that converse with the urban environment. The result will be a limited edition of approximately 100 vehicles, celebrating the city’s rhythm, energy, and creative spirit while offering a new way to experience sustainable mobility.

This partnership with Raffles Milano is a natural step in Lime’s journey toward a mobility experience that seamlessly integrates with the urban fabric,” says Matteo Cioffi, General Manager of Lime Italy. “Milan is a city where design is part of everyday life, and we want our vehicles to reflect that. Thanks to the creativity of the students, this limited edition will demonstrate how sustainability and innovation can come together to create a new kind of urban experience, making every journey more engaging and unique. As mobility partner of the Porta Venezia Design District during Milan Design week, Lime is excited to deploy those limited-edition vehicles there in priority and to create a unique and curated experience for visitors and residents alike.
